Description

Stanislaus Model Railroaders & Historians currently has two HO scale layouts. We feature one HO modular show layout, utilizing Digitrax radio DCC control and Bragdon Enterprises scenery materials. The show layout features a double leveled 'double dog bone' type configuration with two reversing loops. This allows trains to run back and forth over the layout in front of the public to better show off the potential of DCC control. Trains travel a scale 4-mile distance over the layout. The permanent layout, still under construction, features approximately 26 scale miles of double track main line, with numerous switch yards, industrail sidings on the plans and a 6ft long (6 level) oval helix to transvese between the two levels at approximately 1.5-1.7% grade. All members, including new members can submit changes to the planned layout, if they have better ideas for improvement. It IS a "club layout". The permanent HO layout also utilizes Digitrax radio DCC control.

Membership is open to everyone with dues being $15 per month (covers entire family within same household). Dues are used to cover the costs of utiliities and club house rental fees. There is NO probationary period before a new member can run trains on the layout(s) and/or work on the layouts. We encourage every member to be as involved in both of these areas as possible. Though the club utilizes DCC, there is no need for new members to purchase any DCC items in order to join or run trains, as the club has extra Digitrax DCC throttles and all the components necessary. It is recomemded that members purchase some decoders to install in their personal locomotives in order to get the full enjoyment of model railroading that DCC operation can provide. Analog (regular now DCC) locomotives will run on the layouts.

The club puts on two shows per year (fall and spring) to develope additional funds for opertions, materials and building/expanding/improving the layouts. There is NO initiation fees, and memebers in good standing over a short probationary period of 3-6 months, will get keys to the club house.

The club meets every Thursday evening, with the monthly general meeting occuring on the first Thursday of each month. There are also 'fun run' Saturdays, normally the 3rd Saturday of each month. Members are often at the club on other days to work on the layouts and/or run trains.
